Resources for Congregations
Names and addresses of organizations referred to on these pages by capital letters
are found in the Sources of Information Section.
Disciples Home Missions is committed to connecting people to the life-changing love
of God experienced in Jesus Christ. DHM has no mission beyond that, and there could
be none greater. To that end DHM will do what it can to serve that mission, and
will partner with any and all in this church who are of like mind. The intention
is to better provide needed services to the whole church. In fact, new collaborative
partnerships are developing between Disciples Home Missions, the Pension Fund, Church
Extension, and Higher Education.
DHM focuses its mission on four aspects of the church’s life: diversity, growth,
renewal, and leadership. It offers programs, counsel, and resources for ministries
and offers them primarily in partnership with the Regions.
DHM also works with constituent and grassroot organizations of Disciples to help
them realize their potential in the ministries to which God calls them. DHM remains
convinced that communities of faith need to be engaged in redeeming, reconciling,
and prophetic mission, and needs to obey the imperative of Jesus Christ to be about
DHM offers assistance with:
• Congregational Transformation, Evangelism, Church Growth
• Christian education: vacation Bible school, teacher training, educational models
• Volunteer opportunities/Disciples volunteering
• Elders’ resources
• Week of the Laity
• Chain of Prayer
• Peace Sunday
• Small groups
• Family and Children’s Ministries: Children Worship & Wonder, ARK, KIDS TO
• Disciples Care for Children E-Group, Light a Candle for Children
• Public Witness/Rapid Response/Environmental Concerns
• Constituency groups: men, women, youth, young adults, chaplains, Scouts
• Racial ethnic ministries
• Immigration and refugee services
• Search and Call
• Christian vocation
Though DHM has been serving clergy for many generations, we are now adding new services
to better serve these committed persons. We are seeking new ways to encourage our
clergy to remain in ministry longer while maintaining physical and spiritual health.
Another aim is to create more inviting environments for those who might be listening
for their own call to serve.

The effectiveness of a congregation’s ministry, the welfare and safety of its people,
and the image it creates in the community are all directly related to the management
and maintenance of physical facilities.
Property committees should regularly inspect all structures, grounds, and equipment,
giving consideration to maintenance, needs of the handicapped, energy conservation,
remodeling, expansion and parking needs. Insurance, inventory, and budget also require
close attention. Making a video or photo inventory of space, contents, and facilities
is a prudent action.
Working together with regions, local advisory committees, Church Extension, and
Disciples Home Missions, the New Church Ministry staff support new congregation
development program services.
For specific information on services and field counseling relating to strategic
and building planning, fund-raising and financing for new construction, remodeling,
new congregation establishment, or purchase of sites or equipment, contact Church

planning and funding services, including loans.
