Schade, Leah D.

Leah Schade is the Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship at Lexington Theological Seminary in Kentucky. An ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since 2000, Leah has served congregations in rural, urban, and suburban settings. She earned both her MDiv and PhD degrees from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (now United Lutheran Seminary), and her book Creation-Crisis Preaching: Ecology, Theology, and the Pulpit (2015) is available from Chalice Press. Leah has served as an anti-fracking and climate activist, community organizer, and advocate for numerous environmental and social justice issues. Her newest book co-edited with Margaret Bullitt-Jonas, Rooted and Rising: Voices of Courage in a Time of Climate Crisis, contains essays from a cross-section of faith leaders and activists offering their spiritual wisdom for facing the difficult days ahead (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020). Leah is also the author of Preaching in the Purple Zone: Ministry in the Red-Blue Divide (Rowman & Littlefield, 2019) and is the “EcoPreacher” blogger for Patheos.
